Rega Apollo-R CD Player & Saturn Price Drop

January 2012 - It has just become available in the UK and will be available here VERY soon - the new Rega Apollo-R CD player features a number of improvements over the original Apollo and it now comes in the compact R series chassis!. For $1.095 US Retail, you get number of improvements to power supply, analog output stage, and new  (Wolfson) DAC chip set used over the original Apollo. Full details can be found here on Rega's Apollo-R web-page! Along with the announcement of the new Apollo-R, Rega has REDUCED the price of the Saturn D player by several hundred dollars! The Rega Saturn is now $1,795 US Retail - a terrific value!

Rega RP-3 Turntable!

December 2011 - While this may look very similar to the previous Rega P3 - the new RP3 incorporates a number of significant changes/improvements over the P3. The plinth is a all new design that is made of a different lighter material and incorporates a place. The venerable Rega arm-tube has been further optimized and is a all new casting on this RB303 arm. What this adds up to is definite improvements in clarity, blacker backgrounds, better PRAT for little price difference over the old P3. Available in White, Cool Gray, and Titanium colors for no different or extra charge (the high-gloss models are discontinued) without cartridge for $895 and with a factory mounted Elys2 cartridge for $1,095! For more details, check out Rega's RP3 web-page on their web site!

Rega Brio-R Integrated Amp!

Rega Brio-R Integrated Amp In Silver

June 2011 - Rega is now shipping  the NEW Rega Brio-R Integrated amp. Rega has given the Brio a major revision by incorporating a number of improvements. Some are convenience related as the Brio-R now has a remote control (yea!) and is now packaged in the new half size chassis first seen with the Rega DAC (see below). On the sound front, the Brio-R incorporates a number of improvements include a new 50W/ch output stage with a class A driver stage along with more robust power supply and regulation for the whole integrated amp. While only marginally more rated power output than the Brio3, this new output stage has higher peak current capabilities and can drive a much wider range of speakers with ease. They have also made improvements to the phono preamp by tweaking the gain to make it more usable with other MM carts (which generally have a bit less output than Rega's own MM cartridges) and refinements to the RIAA EQ curve below 100 Hz. Full specs and additional details can be found here on Rega's Brio-R web page  and Tone Audio also already has the first review of the Brio-R up which you can check out here (click to view)! The Rega Brio-R comes Black or Silver finish and is $895 Retail.

The NEW Rega DAC is here!

The new Rega DAC is here and in stock. This is a great sounding piece that out performs the internal D/A in the Apollo and Saturn and  can turn Rega Saturn's and Apollo's into even better sounding digital front ends. Loaded with USB and several high-res capable SPDIF digital inputs, its a great deal for only $995 retail! CLICK HERE to view or special Rega DAC web-page! A number of great reviews are already out on the Rega DAC at Positive Feedback On-Line (click to view) and Tone Audio (click to view).

New Rega Performance Pack for RP1 Tuntable!

The new Rega RP1 (see discussion below) turntable has been available for about a month now (offering a great value for only $445 retail). As a additional bonus, you can now opt for a souped up version of the RP1 which includes what Rega calls the "Performance Pack" for just $195 more ($640 retail). What does the Performance Pack get ya for the Rega RP1??  It switches out the standard Rega black belt for the reference white drive belt, the Ortofon OM5E is replaced with the Rega Bias2, then you also get the thicker 100% wool mat (to mate up better with the Bias2), and finally a 14mm "O" ring spacer (which helps you set the counterweight to the right spot for the Bias2 very easily for the recommended tracking force).  For more details, you can click here to check on Rega's PDF on the RP1 Performance Pack! For those of you who want to upgrade your RP1 on your own, we can also get you the RP! Performance Pack separately for $195. Either way, it's a nice deal because if bought separately, these items are a $234 retail value.

New Rega DAC and Budget Table Coming!

The new Rega RP1 (see pic below) turntable ($445 retail) will be here this November and it will be followed shortly by the new Rega DAC ($995 retail) in late November or Early December! You can catch details about the new Rega RP1 here on Rega's website. The scuttle but we hear is that the new RP1 not only is better than the old P1, but better then the P2 as well!!! In fact Rega has discontinued both the P1 AND P2 tables, it is so confident about the RP1's performance! It also will be available in your choice of Charcoal Grey, Titanium, or White finishes at the $445 price! Click here to view a (large) high res pic of the new RP1 in white! The Rega DAC is VERY similar to the DAC found in the $9000 Rega Isis CD player and features selectable filter settings and SPDIF (24/96K) and USB digital inputs! The DAC is packaged in a new half size chassis. At the 2010 RMAF I was shown some (owners manual type) drawings of what the DACs look/layout will be like and it looked allot like the picture from this UK Brist HiFi dealer's News Page and it will be available in black or silver. It should sound close to the sound of the DAC in the Isis CD player which is very good! We have units on order and will have them as soon as they are available here in the states!

High Gloss Finishes Available on Rega Speakers!

In addition to the improvements made a couple years ago to the Rega speaker lines up (see our HiFi Blog entry on Rega's RS series  speaker for more details), you can now get sleek looking gloss black and gloss white finishes on Rega's speakers for a small extra cost. The finishes have the cool wet look and the speakers look really cool in the black or white finish! The picture don't do the speakers justice... I just delivered a pair of gloss black RS-3s the other month, the customer was uber happy with the look and sound and the significant other dug the appearance too!

Rega RS1 in Gloss Black

Rega P3-24 Tables Available in Pretty Colors!

Much improved over the older optional color plinth P3's as these table have a very hot high-gloss color finish and come standard with Rega's TT=PSU motor drive power supply (in black) for $1,295 retail! When you consider that buying a normal (standard finish) P3-24 and Rega TT-PSU costs $1,270 for both items, for only $25 more you can get your table in a sweet high gloss color finish! Most colors (green, white, black, blue, & red) are readily available here in the USA, though given the variety of colors available, we generally order in the specific color you want at the time you order which (usually) takes only a week to get in.  Click here to read more about the new Colored Plinth P3-24 turntables here on our Hi-Fi Blog!

  • Rega Elicit Integrated Amp - Rega is making a definite statement in bringing back the Elicit integrated amplifier. This time out they are not holding anything back as the new Elicit Integrated amp ($2,995 US Retail) incorporates top quality parts, multiple power supplies, special preamp/volume control circuits and much more. Take a hop over to our Hi-Fi Blog entry on the new Elicit Integrated for bunch of details, pics and more!

Rega New Phono Stages!

It's has been rumored about for awhile and it is finally here. Part of what is now called the Rega Signature range of reference products (like the Rega P9 turntable and Alpheta MC phono cartridge), the IOS MC Phono Stage was born out of development work on microphone amps that were designed for Rega's own LP recordings. The IOS is a dual mono discrete symmetrical pre amplifier using a high performance transformer input stage. Combining  the low noise "gain" properties of the transformer and low noise high bandwidth discrete transistor circuitry, the results  have to be heard and re define what can be achieved from a phono pre amplifier. The IOS  has options for loading, DC resistance, gain, and filtering which will match with any MC phono cartridge design, although when used with Rega's Alpheta cartridge the synergy is stunning. The IOS is available now, MSRP is $3,195.

For those who are on much tighter budget for a phono stage, Rega has something for you folks too!. The Fono Mini is a new $145 MM phono preamp that is designed to give Rega quality performance at a budget price. Based  on the same phono preamp used in the Mira Integrated, it uses the same close tolerance parts as found in the more expensive Fono preamp and is housed in a nice compact extruded aluminum case.

Rega P324!

Roy Gandy and his clan at Rega have been hard at work the past few years making a number of improvements on older tables.... in the past year we have seen the new P1, P2 and it was only a matter of time before Rega Research team got around to the P3. The P3 was introduced in 2000 and replaced the classic Planar 3 and now we have the new P3(24) (Rega refers to it as the P324, but it is much easier for me to type P3(24) :-)  The 24 refers to the 24V motor which is now being used in the P3 (which allows the optional Rega TT PSU unit to be now used with the P3(24)!!!), but that is not the only improvement made to the venerable P3. A new plinth material is now being used and a new version of the famous RB300 arm is included! The RB301 now uses the same 3 point mounting system as found on the more expensive Rega RB700 and RB1000 arms. Appearance wise the P3(24) has moved away from the beveled sides of the P3 chassis to the more traditional square edges just like the old Planar 3 had. Table will be available and in stock soon. As well as this neat improvements does come with a modest price increase, US Retail of the P3(24) is $895. Of course we will be accepting old P3s, Planar 3s, and even P2/Planar2s for you blokes out there that want to trade up to the new P3(24)! A nice package deal will also soon be available, a P3(24) with a Elys2 cartridge mounted on the table at the factory for only $1,095.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page to check out our Rega trade-up deals! If you are looking for a older used Rega CD player, don't forget to give us a call or e-mail.... sometimes we get units in and they are sold before we get a chance to post them for sale because someone has done so.

The Saturn CD Player and Other Rega News

The eagerly awaited Rega Saturn CD Player will be arriving here soon (early August '06). Due to initial demand, we will have a demo unit only available first for folks to listen to and unit available for delivery a few weeks to a month later. Retail price is going to be $2,395. We are really looking forward to hearing this player... feel free to email or call for our thoughts on the new player.

Some other cool announcements from Rega involve the Brio which has received improvements to bump its output to 49 Watts per channel into 8 ohms. For vinyl fans there is Rega's first moving coil phono cartridge. The Apheta incorporates some interesting innovations as it is a ground up fresh approach to the design of moving coil cartridges.  At $1,695 it looks like it is going to be one great cartridge!

The New Rega Apollo!

Actually, it has been here awhile and most of you Rega fans already know about this great new Rega Apollo player. Instead of my rambling description on this neat new player, I'll just let the folks from Rega do the talking...

New Apollo CD player-

Rega is proud to announce the birth of a totally new CD player, the Apollo. Following the successful, long standing and much loved Planet was always going to be a tough act. However, listening tests showed that we’ve done it and then some!

The story

To the best of our understanding, there have only ever been five large multinational companies with the technology and knowledge base to develop the remarkably complex operating software for CD players.

Rega has worked hard in locating a British software company who were in the development of a totally new disc operating system. A system, which was highly advanced, even in the early development stages.

Rega is the only manufacturer to develop the unique new disc operating system. Due to ever increasing computer processing power and memory fabrication it has been possible to build in an enormous amount of memory capacity. This has allowed the data retrieval to meet the original CD 'Red Book' specifications without compromise to the musical performance. All previous chip-sets were unable to achieve this due to their limited memory and signal processing capacity.

Rega's new British designed chip set contains over 20MB of memory with 32 bit digital signal processing capacity and Rega has used this computing power to give a far greater musical performance.

We hope you enjoy this very special CD player; we have spent a very long time creating it, drawing on all of our 32 years of experience in specialist Hi Fi manufacturing.

Rega P2/P3/P25 Packaging How To!

Packaging a Rega P2, P3, or P25 is not as easy as it seems.... there are some fine points if missed, can often result a a perfectly good Rega table getting damaged in shipment. Given the number of trade-ups we do, I though it was a good idea to put together a little how-to on some of  the finer points plus a whole bunch of pictures so you can see how it is done! Click here to view Rega Turntable Packaging How To Page! (link opens a new window)

Rega Introduces New P5 and P7 Turntables!

Rega has incorporated much of what was learned in the revised Planar 9 (and in particular, the RB1000 arm) into two new turntables. The very well received Planar 25 is now discontinued and replaced with the P5. The P5 features the new RB700 tonearm which has a stainless steel base and three point attachment system that was originally developed for the RB-1000. While the same basic motor drive system form the P25 is carried over, the pulley is a improved precision machine unit. The surround/trim of the is a aluminum extrusion which available in your choice of black or silver finish. The US Retail price of the new P5 is $1,295. The P7 offers much of the current P9s performance at considerably less cost. The new RB700 arm is standard and the table uses a more cost effective version of  Ceramic Oxide platter of the P9. The P7 utilizes the same dual belt motor and drive system as found on the P9, with a much more affordable version of the of the P9s external motor drive power supply, called the TT PSU.  All in all, the new P7 is one pretty cool package which outperformed the original P9 table and retails for $2,595. BTW, the TT PSU can be added to the P5 to further upgrade the P5's performance for only $345. OK, enough of my babbling on, to see some sharp pics and more info on these new Rega turntables, check out the following links to Rega's webpages on these new turntables! [links open new windows]

[Rega Research Jupiter 2000 CD Player]THE FINE PRINT: Traded in Reg turntables and Rega CD players must have factory box and packaging, no modifications (i.e. no re-wired arms, spliced in phono leads, re-painted plinths etc. etc.), and be in very good or better condition (i.e. working properly with only typical wear and tear). For those who are missing parts, or all of their original factory packaging for your turntable or CD player, we may be able to furnish new replacement packaging for a additional $35 charge. Older Planar 3s (which are those that are more than about 15 years old with RB-300 arm and the black brushed aluminum type looking plinth) are not worth as much as the latter Planar 3s (which have the black laminate type plinth), so the trade up cost is $50 higher for those older tables.  Original Planar 3s (those real ol' buggers with the S shaped tonearm) do not qualify for this upgrade program. While we don't expect your Rega Table to be in as new condition, please notify us in advance of any cosmetic or physical damage to the table. While minor things like a rubbing pulley or a loose belt are OK and easy for us to fix, a significant scratch (for example) in the plinth is a item which we cannot really repair and will impact the resale value and the trade in value of your table. Feel free to call (315-622-4137) or e-mail us with any questions about our Rega trade up program.
